Kurmangazy Orchestre, 90 Years of History.

THE PERIOD OF FORMATION OF THE FIRST ORCHESTRA

In 1933, a new round of development of education, literature, national art and culture began in the country. Under the leadership of the People's Commissar of Education of the Kazakh Regional Committee Temirbek Zhurgenov, amateur art activities developed rapidly in the republic. The first Kazakh musical and dramatic theater was created. Educational institutions were opened. Musical art centers flourished. The Kazakh National Orchestra of Folk Instruments named after Kurmangazy was founded in 1934. During the formation of the orchestra, its first artistic director and chief conductor was academician Akhmet Zhubanov. In 1933, a small ensemble of 11 talented dombra players based on national musical instruments was created at the Alma-Ata Music and Drama College under the leadership of academician Akhmet Zhubanov. The founders of the artistic group were the first professional specialists of Kazakh music: kobyz player Zhappas Kalambayev, sybyz player Iskak Ualiev, dombra players Makhambet Bokeikhanov, Nausha Bokeikhanov, Lukpan Mukhitov, Kambar Medetov, Kali Jantileuov, Uakap Kabigozhin, Gabdulman Matov and other skilled performers and performers of folk music. A small ensemble created at the music school first performed at the First Congress of People's Artists in 1934. This was the first concert of a dombra ensemble in the history of Russian music. The initial repertoire of the ensemble included the kuis "Kenes", "Bi kuy", "Karabas" and the folk songs "Balkurai", "Kargash". The Kazakh Central Executive Committee highly appreciated the talent of the talented dombra players who performed at the 1st All-Kazakhstan Congress of People's Artists and adopted a special resolution on the creation of an orchestra. Based on a special resolution of the People's Commissariat of Education of the Kazakh ASSR dated June 25, a decision was made to create an orchestra of the Kazakh Central Executive Committee at the Music and Drama College. The ensemble, which included dombra players who possessed high performance skills on national musical instruments, quickly gained popularity.

PERIOD OF CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT

The main goal of academician Akhmet Zhubanov was to raise the musical level of dombra players, who amazed many with their natural talent in the early stages of the orchestra's formation, and to bring them to academic status. At that time, with the participation of many dombra players, many of the family heritage of Kurmangazy Sagyrbaiuly, Dauletkerey, Dina Nurpeisova were recorded in the orchestra, and creative work was carried out in the scientific direction. The initial repertoire of the artistic group, formed by talented artists from among the people, was replenished with the heritage of folk songs and dances preserved in the memory of the people. Each performer had his own unique style and skill in playing his instrument. The talent of the steppe dombra player Uakapa Kabigozhin was demonstrated in the performance of Kurmangazy's kuys "Saryarka", "Balbyraun", "Serper", Naushi Bokeikhanov - Kurmangazy's kuys "Kobikshashkan" and Dauletkerey - "Kosalka", "Topan", Kali Jantileuov - Kurmangazy's kuys "Adai". The repertoire of the first professional artistic group included the kuys "Kairan sheshem", "Akbakay". As a result of the creative upsurge of the orchestra, the Kazakh State Philharmonic named after Zhambyl was established in 1935. That year, the orchestra made its first tour in its history in Shymkent, former Guryev and current Mangistau regions. During the tour, the orchestra collected a collection of folk melodies. Quite often, the kyuis of Kurmangazy Sagyrbaiuly gave a special impetus to the orchestra's repertoire. In 1936, the orchestra took part in the 10-day Decade of Kazakh Art and Culture, which took place in Moscow. This was a new historical turning point in the cultural life of the Kazakh people. During the decade, the operas "Kyz Zhibek" and "Zhalbyr" were staged. A national dance was performed. The decade ended with a concert of the orchestra, created on the basis of national instruments. Under the direction of the chief conductor and artistic director of the orchestra Akhmet Zhubanov, Kurmangazy's kuis "Adai", "Serper", "Balbyraun", "Kobykshashkan" were performed. This decade gave a special impetus to the new orchestra. The creative path of the orchestra has developed widely.

MASTERS WHO IMPROVED NATIONAL MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS

The first orchestra in the musical history of our country had high dreams and clear goals for the development of the rich traditional musical culture of our people. Initially, the creative team, formed as an ensemble, set itself the goal of developing traditional folk music preserved in the memory of the country, improving the sound characteristics of the simplest instruments: dombra, kobyz, sybyzgy. The workshop for improving national musical instruments collected the samples of dombra, kobyz and other folk instruments necessary for the orchestra and began work on improving their quality. V. V. The Andreyev Orchestra of Russian Folk Instruments had a great influence. Academician Akhmet Zhubanov and composer E. Under the direction of V. V. Brusilovsky. The creation of orchestral groups following the example of the Andreyev Orchestra of Russian Folk Instruments, the improvement of the kobyz and dombra types raised the level of the orchestra's sound to a high level. Composer Bakytzhan Baikadamov made a great contribution to the scientific development of the acoustic and physical characteristics of folk instruments in the orchestra. The composer devoted many years to studying the specifics of the sound of musical instruments. In the history of the formation of the orchestra, a special place is occupied by the name of the famous master instrumentalist Kamar Kasymov. The master instrumentalist raised the instruments to the level of classical instruments, while preserving the timbre characteristics of the instruments prepared for the national orchestra. Professionally made musical instruments helped raise the orchestra to an academic level. The most valuable musical instruments created by the master are still kept in museums in our country and neighboring Russia. Academician Akhmet Zhubanov wrote in his memoirs: "At the initial stage, there were various difficulties in the study and development of folk art and musical folk instruments. There was a lack of modern music masters who could harmonize the sound characteristics of the dombra and kobyz in accordance with the laws of acoustics. "The brothers Boris and Emmanuel Romanenko, who improved Russian musical instruments, worked tirelessly to study folk instruments," he writes. The origins of the musical instruments used in orchestras today arose as a result of the professional skill of these masters.
